Practical Packing Tips Before Moving Day

A moving kit works best when it is used with a simple packing plan.

Start with items you use least often. Seasonal décor, extra linens, books, stored items, rarely used kitchenware, and office supplies can usually be packed before daily-use items.

Use smaller boxes for heavy items. Books, documents, tools, and canned goods can become difficult to lift when packed into large boxes. Keeping heavy boxes manageable helps reduce lifting problems and box failure.

Label boxes by room and contents. “Kitchen – Plates” is more helpful than simply writing “Kitchen.” If a box contains fragile items, add fragile labels and protective material inside.

Keep a moving survival kit or first-night box separate. Include chargers, toiletries, medication, important documents, basic tools, cleaning supplies, snacks, and a change of clothes. This prevents you from opening several boxes just to find what you need on the first night.
